BOUNCING SOULS | The Gold Song

The Bouncing Souls will be releasing their The Gold Album on Six Six Oh Six and playing Six very sold out shows at the Knitting Factory.

I'm always psyched for a new Bouncing Souls record, but something about The Gold Album's first single, "The Gold Song", screams: "If My Chemical Romance or AFI can be on mainstream radio, why can't The Bouncing Souls?" Maybe its that the song lacks Greg Souls off-beat humor or that the riff is a bit heavier and blander than their typical 80s punk-pop sensibility. Or is it that backing vocal track that bugs me? Anyway, take a listen to the new Bouncing Souls.........

SLOWLANDS | Brooklyn's Next Buzz Band?

Central Village and Daily Refill have turned me onto Slowlands, a sweet new six-piece out of Brooklyn, and I've been digging what I've heard. They remind me a bit of Sea Ray, which is a very, very good thing.

They're played the last Movable Hype show and will be hitting the Mercury Lounge on April 11th. Go check them out......

THE BRONX | Second Self-Titled Release

The Bronx enjoyed a good week of being the Next Big Thing (that may be copyrighted to VH1) back in 2003. They had the packed CMJ showcase, a rocking SXSW, etc etc etc, but it never really led them anywhere.

This July, they'll drop their second self-titled album. Considering they do put on a loud and spastic live show, here's hoping the album is as tasty as "History's Stranglers", the first taste of their upcoming release......

ARCTIC MONKEYS | Covers, Webster Hall Review

Short and sweet, that's how the Arctic Monkeys played it at Webster Hall. Thirteen songs in forty-five minutes. No encores. No new songs. Just the hit album played out of order to a lively crowd.

It would have been nice to hear the Monkeys cover of Girls Aloud's "Love Machine" or to see them play "Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor" the way Sugababes do it.....

PRIMAL SCREAM | The Riot City Blues

Primal Scream are getting set to release Riot City Blues this spring, an album that will see the band ditch the electronics and bring back the guitar rock of Give Out But Don't Give Up. You can blame the change in sound to the abscene of Kevin Shields, who no longer will be part of Primal Scream's touring band or doing any production on their albums.

The band have a rough live version of "Country Girl", the future first single from Riot City Blues, that you can download via My Space............

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS | Stadium Arcadium Live Tracks Appear Online

While no studio tracks have appeared from the Red Hot Chili Pepper's upcoming album, Stadium Arcadium, you can find a bunch of live tracks from the album over at one of their fansites (which I've linked to below. The quality isn't that great, but it should wet the appitate of their fans.

One thing I've always dug about the Chili Peppers is that they bring good bands with them on the road. For their gigantic UK tour this spring, !!! will be opening the shows.

And isn't this the worst album cover you've seen in a long, long time. Talk about phoning it in.....
