I wish I could report that the Mayhem at the Bowery Ballroom on friday night was the result of another manic show by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, unfortunately that was not the case. The mayhem was due to an insanely overbearing security force that made the Bowery seem more like the Roseland. Security kept wandering through the subdued crowd and threating people. They eventually kicked about six people out of the venue for the crime of taking picture with a professional camera.
Now I know that people taking pictures throughout a show is uber annoying (although not as annoying as some douchebag who kept farting and stinking up the place), but it makes no sense to harrass people for taking pictures with a professional camera versus a digital camera. And security just had sticks up their asses. Ugh.
I wouldn't have even noticed this shit if the crowd had been lively and into the show, but it was like a floppy dick at a sex party. The Yeahers sounded alright, the new songs were pretty good, but all-in-all it was just an okay show. I did especially like Karen's Ziggy Stardust stage outfit and her war paint make-up, but it would have been nice if she didn't repeat the same stage banter that she did at Maxwells.
The best song of the night was the set ending "Turn Into", by far my favorite of the new songs. I also loved the last minute addition of "Modern Romance", but am sad they took "Date With The Night" off.........

The Futureheads are the same way. You'd think they'd appreciate the attention...after all, a show at the Bowery is hardly on par with selling out MSG almost a dozen nights (and Billy Joel didn't give a rats ass about pictures being taken).
