Waving enthusiastically from behind the curve is CBS, who recently debuted their broadband channel Innertube.  Interesting choice... as if a broadband channel can save someone or something from drowning?

So if you're not ready for summer reruns but you desperately need to shove something into your eyes and ears, there's Innertube's: Greek to Chic, will  (say it with me) bring convivial hosts together with slovenly frat boys and give them vaguely metrosexual makeovers and wrap knitted cozies around their kegs.  No pun intended.

Meet the amazing geeks who invented Erebus, the scarecrow with a brain...

Acorrding to Live Science, Students at the University of South Florida have created a s carecrow that foregoes the old straw brain for a head stuffed with sophisticated sensors and computer parts. Erebus, the smart scarecrow, was designed not for a cornfield, actually, but to frighten away birds that would prey on fish in commercial aquatic farms.

Erebus detects motion and then images the scene. Its micro-PC, an eBox, then processes the imagery to distinguish between real intruders (the birds) and non-threatening objects like farmers. Fish farmers around the world might soon be exchanging their blue overalls for orange outfits; Erebus has been trained to leave bright orange things alone.

It can blast the sound of a gunshot at 120 decibels or spray the birds with an annoying but harmless sprinkler system. Erebus is also a tattletale: It reports the intrusion by email or cell phone.

We all know that college athletes get perks: SUVs, their very own nerd to take tests for them, a lifetime supply of Lotrimin...

They also get discounted cell-phone accessories in exchange for bowl tickets. 

According to the Daily Iowan, documents obtained from an unemployment-compensation appeals hearing indicate that former IPCS Wireless employee Jeremy Reed sold a $79.99 headset and a $49.99 phone charger to a customer for 1 penny each, among other charges.

At his hearing, Reed said the football tickets were "gifts" from a "friend." The judge determined the "friend" was a football player, and preferential treatment was provided to the athletes in exchange for gifts and other benefits.

You might think you're being super adult and responsible when you roll out of bed, hungover and encrusted with vomit and Goldschlager, and type out that email to your professor telling him that you need to miss class because you've got "some kind of flu bug."

And you think your prof finds the fact that you email him at 3am on a Thursday night before the final to be a sign of enthusiasm?

Wrong.

According to an article in the New York Times, your professors are sick of you and your stupid emails, your whining and demanding the notes from class because you were out skiing in Aspen.

A bloomin' brouhaha ensued when the once-chubby editors of The Onion admitted to the New York Times that they had a much easier time finding tubby people to photograph in their native Wisconsin than in super svelte NYC.

The University of Wisconsin Daily Cardinal gives this deliciously fatty retort:

We need to band together, citizens of Wisconsin. Taking pictures of fat people here may have been like shooting fish at a grocery store deli, but it is high time we rise up or at least slouch less. United we stand, divided we fall, one nation under chicken fries.

BOSTON COLLEGE | Hack attack!

Boston College students, you're screwed.  Actually, any school that uses its students or alumni's social security numbers as IDs are screwed...

The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a California based non-profit consumer advocacy organization (according to their site), published a report last Tuesday that said more than 52 million Americans' identities have been compromised by hackers, and of the 113 reported data breaches, each giving hackers access to private information of hundreds of thousands of people, 55 took place at U.S. college campuses, including Tufts University and Boston College.

MISC. KOLLEGE | Dirty Facebookers beware!

Hey Facebook addicts!  On your profile, do you refer to yourself as Lord of the Cockrings?  Is there a picture of you flashing your breasts to campus police?  Do you post diatribes against cops, whitey, women, or showering?  Is there a photo of you being arrested for trying to sell drugs to a hooker? Do your hobbies include "cruising for pussy or ass or whatever's clever?"

Well, beware, beware, because not only are law enforcement agents starting to use Facebook to bust students, your future employers could be checking out your profile to see what kind of a person you really are.

So delete that photo your frat brother took of you naked on top of a St. Bernard before you graduate or you might not land that interview with Smith Barney.  Oh, who are we kidding, of course you will!
