Nothing encourages students to spend time on campus like a good, cheap concert. Here's some highlights we found coming to a campus near you. Note that these shows are usually open to the general public, but students get first dibs on tickets.

BOWDOIN COLLEGE | Bowdoin cares about black people

Icy Ivy alternative Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine proudly claims a 250 percent increase black enrollment since 1994. Bowdoin boasts that their numbers "far out-rank other liberal arts colleges in long-term increases. "

Call me a progess snob, but I think a college needs more than twenty-eight black students and a Ladysmith Black Mambazo concert before it can claim "diverse" status.

I mean, your school is so white, your mascot is a polar bear! 

Still, I've got a hunch that those twenty-eight black students are going to be featured prominently on all the school's promotional materials... 

YALE UNIVERSITY | Boorish manners of a Yalie, no more

I'm reminded of a joke I once read in National Lampoon magazine:

A Harvard student and a Yale student are at a urinal. Afterward, the Yale man washes his hands, the Harvard man doesn't.  The Yale man says, "Dear fellow, at Yale they teach us to wash our hands after we urinate."

To which the Harvard man replies, "Well at Harvard, we don't piss on our hands."

Which brings me to the bizarre story of how a little school like Yale (whose endowment is a reported with a reported $15.7 billion) could not find a financially feasible way to put handsoap in the dorm bathrooms. But after years of lobbying and fighting, the student have won the right to the icky goo that we take for granted.

The news spread quickly among alumni who campaigned for soap while at Yale.

''Victory at last!" Ted Wittenstein, a 2004 graduate who went on to analyze weapons of mass destruction intelligence for Congress, e-mailed a friend.

WAKE FOREST U. | Bad grooming sickens reporter

According to male manners reporter and future Details writer Will Rothwell of Wake Forest University's Old Black and Gold, fellow students should consider the three B's... bathing, brushing and... buffing your nails?

At first, I'm with him...

"Teeth: Taking care of your teeth and gums gives people the opportunity to stand within two feet of your breathing range, and it can save you money on dentist bills. Brush at least twice a day using a whiting and anti-cavity toothpaste. Also, floss! I cannot stress this enough. The quality of your breath will increase drastically. Finally, rinse with a good mouthwash to kill all those nasty bacteria in there."

But then, he starts to overstep from hygiene to wannabe Cargo editor:

"If you have a problem with hangnails, apply lotion or cuticle oil to your hands. Finally, for a real treat -- regardless of your gender -- get a manicure sometime. If nothing else, you'll get a nice, soothing hand massage.

Eyebrows: Sadly, many people are genetically cursed with the dreaded unibrow. Even worse, many of these people opt to maintain it. It just doesn't look good. Get rid of it."

KOLLEGE DAILY MUSIC GUIDE| Spotlight on Boston

I went to school in Boston.  Well, actually, a crappy suburb of Boston, but whatever.  Boston nightlife seemed pretty weak as far as I was concerned.  But by my sophomore year, I discovered that all I needed was a Phoenix and a little determination to find that there are indeed things to do for those who aren't into the white-baseball-cap and roofie scene.

So Bostonian Collegians, before you resign yourself to another Saturday night in the stacks or seeing that a cappella group, take a deep breath, slap yourself in the face, and check out some of these top shelf bands who are coming to the Land of the Big Dig.

SETON HALL U. | Seton Hall sends prospects to phone-sex chat line

According to local news, Applications sent by Seton Hall University to prospective students overseas unwittingly contained a toll-free number offering the opportunity to chat with "hot, horny girls."

The Catholic university, founded in 1856, said it accidentally transposed numbers in admissions application sent to possibly tens of thousands of applicants.

And they thought admissions were up due to their "58-acre campus located in the quaint town of South Orange, New Jersey, only 14 miles from Manhattan."

A Marquette University Tribune reporter broadens her intellectual horizons by talking to a student from Belgium. 

"I encourage everyone to go home and find Belgium on a map. Because if he doesn't like your tone regarding his country, I hear the king can still send people to your house. People with waffle irons."

Can you be a Christian and heterosexual male and support gay rights?  Can you safely enjoy Brokeback Mountain?  Can you dress up like Kelly Clarkson for Halloween?  According Michael Day of the University of Florida's Independent Alligator, yes, you can! 

Evil is that which is harmful to our happiness and the good of society. How, then, can homosexuality be evil?

By my observation, it clearly makes gays happy. Any unhappiness it brings is probably from societal pressures and persecution. That's our evil, not theirs.

And homosexuality does society no real harm. If anything, gay marriage would indoctrinate the principles of a healthy relationship into the lives of millions more people.

U. of NORTH CAROLINA WILMINGTON | Womyn hater

Meet Mike S. Adams.

He's a popular criminology professor at UNC Wilmington.  He's also a columnist for Townhall.com, a conservative D.C. website, an author and "vocal critic of the diversity movement in academia."  So far, no big deal.  I mean, I don't agree with most of what he has to say but he's entitled to his opinion.

Yet, his multi-part series called "Why I Don't Take Feminists Seriously" is... well...

Here's a blithe tidbit:

Feminists are less concerned with women’s rights than they are with their own right to have an abortion.

George Bush has done more for women’s rights than any president in modern history. But feminists hate him because he is opposed to abortion rights.

Bill Clinton sexually harassed more women than any president in American history. But that’s okay. He supports abortion rights so feminists love him. If he were ever convicted of rape, feminists would still love him because he supports abortion rights. More...

But wait, breaking news.  Adams and his editorials namely the one titled ("Perversity and Diversity at My Little University") may have gone too far. 

A bunch of transgender students have filed a complaint against his "bigoted and biased" essays.

Adams's response:

I am offended by the characterization of me as “trans-phobic.” It is simply not true that I am afraid of all trans-gendered persons. I am only afraid of a small portion of the trans-gendered population – those who a) changed from man to woman, b) still like to sleep with women, and c) lack coloring matter in the skin, hair, and eyes. (Note: this is not really racism but, instead, my own little attempt at affirmative action). Alas, more...
